About a.k.a. dinotrac

a.k.a dinotrac, Inc.: Located in the far west Chicago suburb of St. Charles, Il., we are proud to be a true mom'n pop consulting company. We're just as proud to be a Linux company. Company founder Dean Pannell was introduced to Debian Linux in 1996 and has been irretrievably lost in his own Linux-served network ever since. Our name plays on the handle Dean (a.k.a dinotrac) has used over the last several years in Linux forums and in assorted articles. Each of us has spent years working with a variety Unixes (Unices?). Dinotrac, the dim light in our crew, spent more than a decade with mainframe computers and a few more years becoming a lawyer before he saw the light. Better late than never.

Among the services we offer are:
  • C, C++, Perl, and ksh
  • HTML and SQL (but only under duress)
  • Technical writing
  • Classroom training
  • Pretty much anything that'll make us an honest buck.

E-mail us at dinotrac@dinotrac.com.

The tools we use

We run SuSE Linux and Debian GNU/Linux on our systems. In the past, we have also used Red Hat and Caldera.

Whenever possible, which is nearly always, we do our writing with StarOffice. This includes Dinotrac's upcoming, achingly long gestation, science fiction novel, Saving Desdiron. For graphics work, we gravitate toward the GIMP, but are fishing around for a good vector-based tool and keep meaning to do something useful with Blender. Our web work has fallen off lately, so web development tools are behind the times. We are very interested in the KDE-based tool, Quanta+, and also like Bluefish for HTML editing.
